transgender & Gender diverse voice expansion training

Find your voice

Voice modification/expansion training

At Southern Sydney Voice Therapy, we support individuals seeking to feminise, masculinise, or broaden their vocal expression. Using evidence-based techniques, we design each program around your unique goals. We are committed to providing a safe, affirming, and respectful space for learning and exploration. All sessions are delivered by a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist so you can develop your voice confidently and safely.

Voice assessment

Prior to beginning vocal training, we complete a thorough assessment of your voice to help understand your voice and your personal goals. This involves:
  • A discussion about you and your voice such as any previous training, vocal health, voice use and what you would like to achieve from the vocal training.
  • Perceptual voice analysis - the Speech Pathologist will listen to features of your voice such as pitch, loudness resonance and vocal quality.
  • Acoustic analysis - we record your voice and analyse its acoustic properties using specialised software.

What does voice modification/expansion training involve?

Voice modification training involves learning techniques to expand your voice and other aspects of your communication so they more closely align with your gender expression. Depending on your personal needs and goals, vocal training may focus on areas such as:
  • Vocal health
  • Relaxation and stretching
  • Posture and breathing technique
  • Specific exercises to increase vocal stamina, range and flexibility of your voice
  • Pitch and resonance exercises
  • Verbal and non-verbal aspects of communication
  • Home practice tasks
